Résumé

Both established and bold new architects show the most innovative roofs as a means of expression and function of the structure of buildings. Far from being limited to providing protection from the weather, roofs are open to many interpretations, such as acting as a filter for light. Like a fifth skin, they are conjugated even with facades to form an unusual binomial. In this work, architects and builders experiment with many materials and work with the traditional alternative of flat and sloping roofs. Each scheme has a careful study illustrated with photographs, plans, and construction details.
