Résumé

Attracted by Shanghai's rich social and cultural history Hank Chao set up MoHen Shanghai in 2002, at a time of rapid development in interior design in China. Looking back on almost a decade of working on the Chinese mainland, things have gone from good to better, with the city slowly proving itself as a creative design hub attracting professionals from around the world.

In the first half of the 20th century, Shanghai was considered as one of the most modern places in the world. While the rest of the world was thrown into financial turmoil and battling with social unrest, Shanghai was soaking up the Asian and European influences, which eventually helped forge a unique cultural and social identity for this city. After many decades of lying low, the city is once again touted to become not only the mainland's flourishing financial capital, but also the country's, and possibly Asia's, most influential creative centre.
