There is growing pressure on network managers and their own
network architects to establish QoS (Quality of
Service)
in their networks; that is, to make sure that their network traffic is classified in a way that mission critical data gets through
even if you've decided to provide data-hog applications like videoconferencing as a network service. Policy-Based
Networking is the database vehicle that is created to set individual networks up to be secure QoS transporters. While the
first book we published, Ferguson's Quality of Service, provides the needed anatomy view of QoS so product
developers can create QoS-enabled technologies, the network management teams; administrators, integrators, architects,
and engineers need a hands-on guide that shows them how to choose the right plan and products for their exact network
in order to implement QoS. That's why we're publishing this book as the natural follow-on to Ferguson.
