Je me sens la vocation de pretre

Résumé
--
'Even if Theresa does not have a doctrine proper, flashes of authentic doctrine burst from her writings, which, as though by some charisma of the Holy Spirit, touch the very heart of the message of the Revelation in a totally original vision, providing teaching of exceptional quality.' Pope John-Paul II wrote these words in his apostolic letter, 'Divini amoris scientia'. Similarly, Hans Urs von Balthasar, with all the admiration of an established theologian, writes: 'her life is full of seeds of doctrine, which theology has only to develop in order to gain great riches.' Yet all of these 'seeds' have not been tended with equal attention. If some were quickly noticed and received with enthusiasm, others need more time to be discovered, studied and appreciated. The theme of this book belongs to the second category. It is rarely studied and even then timidly, even with a certain caution. So when Theresa 'feels' many vocations after her Act of Oblation to Merciful Love, her attraction for priesthood is not mentioned among the others. Without wishing to define such an omission as infidelity to Theresa's message, there is no doubt that it reveals a difficulty to interpret the words: 'I feel the vocation of a priest' spoken by a woman - who is, moreover, a canonised saint and doctor of the Church. This interpretation demands an in-depth study of Theresa's works. That study, Baiba Brudere has conducted in a masterly manner in this original, rich and well-constructed book. Thanks to her, we not only go straight to the heart of Theresa's work by an unusual path, but that path leads to the most contemporary reflections and questions on the participation of women in the Church's apostolate, and more widely, on their role in society."
