At the close of the 1980s, the independent contributions of Yann Brenier, Mike Cullen and John Mather launched a revolution in the venerable field of optimal transport founded by G. Monge in the 18th century, which has made breathtaking forays into various other domains of mathematics ever since. L'auteur - Cédric Villani

Cédric Villani naît en 1973 à Brive-la-Gaillarde et fait ses études à Toulon et à Paris. Entre 2000 et 2010, il est enseignant chercheur à l'École Normale Supérieure de Lyon et occupe plusieurs postes de professeur invité aux États-Unis. Il est maintenant professeur à l'Université Lyon 1 et directeur de l'Institut Henri Poincaré à Paris, un institut national dédié aux mathématiques et à la physique théorique. La médaille Fields, le "Nobel des mathématiques", lui est décernée en 2010. La même année, il publie aux éditions Grasset son roman, Théorème vivant. Membre de l'Académie des Sciences, Cédric Villani est un ambassadeur inlassable de sa discipline auprès du grand public et de la société.
