Shopping as an experience has taken the place as shopping as a necessity; and the design of the spaces to meet that end has had to adapt accordingly. At the turn of the century, commercial establishments were the first to apply the new construction techniques that emerged from the Industrial Revolution. The new markets and galleries of the European capitals represented the germ of what is today one of the best exponents of the latest tendencies in the language and materials of interior design.
