Résumé
The Villa Savoye in Poissy, recently renovated and reopened to the public, is one of the most impressive buildings by Le Corbusier.
The clear building style without any compromises turns the Villa, located at the Paris periphery and built in 1931, into one of the most talked-about and epochal pieces of modern architecture. Like a box floating in air, the Villa was built on columns; its glowing white side walls, which can be seen from afar, are interrupted only by a long strip of windows. Thanks to André Malraux, the Villa Savoye was classified as a historic building in 1964, when the architect was still alive. In this guide, it is presented to the on-site visitor, as well as to the readers interested in architecture, with numerous, partially unpublished plans and illustrations. Jacques Sbriglio, the author of the two guides Apartment Block 24 N.C. and The Villas La Roche-Jeanneret, is an acknowledged Le Corbusier-specialist.
