L'immanence a la limite

Ce livre tente de ressaisir la singularité de la phénoménologie matérielle de Michel Henry dans le champ de la phénoménologie contemporaine. D'un bout à l'autre, il s'agit d'interroger la pensée de Michel Henry depuis ses propres motifs internes. Pourquoi, et à plus forte raison comment, faire de la phénoménologie matérielle ? En suivant les impératifs phénoménologiques définis par Michel Henry - une conception du transcendantal comme immanence radicale de soi à soi et l'exigence de maintenir irréductibles l'un à l'autre le transcendantal et l'empirique - il devient possible d'effectuer une lecture à nouveaux frais de la phénoménologie contemporaine. De façon ponctuelle, Husserl et Heidegger, mais aussi Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Ricoeur et Derrida sont reconsidérés à partir de la phénoménologie matérielle. En retour, cette lecture de la phénoménologie contemporaine met la phénoménologie matérielle elle-même à l'épreuve. Est-elle capable de rester fidèle, toujours et partout, aux exigences fortes qu'elle prescrit à la pensée ? N'outrepasse-t-elle pas ses propres impératifs phénoménologiques ? En suivant les figures prises par le concept d'immanence dans l'ensemble de son oeuvre, il apparaît que les textes tardifs de Michel Henry versent par moments dans la « métaphysique » telle que la définit la phénoménologie matérielle elle-même. Mais cet excès lui-même, cette immanence poussée à la limite, n'ouvre-t-il pas d'autres potentialités ? N'invite-t-il pas la phénoménologie à être inquiète d'elle-même ? Dans l'inconfort, qui constitue peut-être la meilleure invitation à penser.

This book aims to grasp the uniqueness of Michel Henry's material phenomenology in the field of contemporary phenomenology. From the first page to the last, the author examines the thinking of Michel Henry from the viewpoint of the philosopher's own inner motivation. Why, and even more important, how, can phenomenology be material? If we follow phenomenological imperatives as defined by Michel Henry - a concept of the transcendental as a radical immanence of self to self, and the exigency to maintain an irreducibility between the transcendental and the empiric - it is possible to read contemporary phenomenology anew. We encounter Husserl and Heidegger, but also Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Ricoeur and Derrida, reconsidered in the light of material phenomenology. But this reading of contemporary phenomenology puts material phenomenology to the test. Is it capable of respecting, always and in all instances, the strong principles it imposes on thinking? Doesn't it overstep its own phenomenological imperatives? If we follow the representations of the concept of immanence in his oeuvre, it would appear that Michel Henry's later texts sometimes overlap into the "metaphysical" as defined by material phenomenology. But doesn't that excess, that immanence pushed to the limits, open up other possibilities? Doesn't it invite phenomenology to self-investigation? The malaise constitutes perhaps the best invitation to think.
