Value-based Management
Context, Principles and Application
Résumé
Modern finance theory suggests that the primary objective of a firm should be to maximise shareholder wealth and increasingly firms are targeting the creation of value for shareholders as their principal raison d'être. Advocates of this theory suggest that this is not only good for shareholders but also for the company as it encourages investment. Consultancies are prospering by selling prescriptions for developing a value-orientated firm and managers thought to be excellent at generating shareholder value are held in high esteem and are able to command attractive salaries.
This book stands back and examines, in a balanced way, the development of value-based management over recent years, the principles on which it is based and the primary techniques that it involves. It provides the sophisticated analysis necessary on the application and success of such techniques now that they are becoming established.
