Protection against unsanctioned cd copying

Kris Kaspersky

422 pages, parution le 05/07/2004

Résumé

A manual on the protection of CDs against illegal copying, this book shows the various methods crackers use to copy CDs (via the CDFS driver, cooked mode, SPTI, ASPI, the SCSI port, and the MSCDEX driver). The book explains how to prevent break-ins by cracker using protection methods based on non-standard CD formats. Included in the coverage is information on the fundamentals of the functions of CDs and tips related to CD protection using data formats, the scrambler, the Reed-Solomon coder/encoder, the CIRC coder/encoder, and a weak-sectors generator in a form free of math and assembling. The main program interfaces that provide direct control via peripheral devices at the application level in UNIX, Novell, and Windows Sx/NT/2000/XP are also considered, as is the question of how to read and write RAW sectors.

After reading this book, readers will know how to change the format of a CD to make it accessible for reading and/or writing on most CD drives, but not accessible for copying.

Aimed at shareware and commercial software programmers, as well as users interested in CD protection, this book will help readers defeat hackers and crackers who try to copy CDs without authorization. It is targeted at advanced users as well as application and system programmers.
