Résumé

CiscoWorks 2000 is the latest product family offering from Cisco designed to increase user access to information on a network's performance and ease management tasks. Resource Manager Essentials, upon which the bulk of Cisco Enterprise Management Solutions, Volume I is based, provides users with the tools they need to perform daily management tasks. As with any network management solution, users need to be well-versed in the application of the features of each component in order to gain maximum performance benefits. To this end, Cisco offers the Cisco Enterprise Management Solutions course that explains routed and switched network management solutions.

Cisco Enterprise Management Solutions, Volume I is a direct port of the first half of the instructor-led CEMS course, providing readers with an excellent self-study solution to help them master the intricacies of managing Cisco networks. It begins with an overview of network management as a concept, followed by how industry standards like SNMP, MIBs, and RMON are implemented. Product installation and server requirements are also discussed. It then moves on to cover Resource Manager Essentials and the included component applications in detail. Inventory, device configuration, and software image management are all discussed in depth, as well as change audit services, syslog analysis, and reporting with availability manager. The book ends with coverage of Cisco management connection and Resource Manager tools and a discussion on troubleshooting common problems associated with the use of Resource Manager Essentials.

Cisco offers a Career Certification Specialization in Network Management. The professional-level certification specializations allow engineers to focus on a strategic technology area to better align their skills with the needs of modern organizations. CEMS is the only recommended training course for candidates pursuing CCNP Network Management Certification. As such, students pursuing this specialization will find Cisco Enterprise Management Solutions, Volume I to be a helpful exam preparation tool.
