Numerous attempts have been made in the past to integrate voice and data onto one network. The differing characteristics of voice and data have placed conflicting demands on the individual networks–voice uses a circuit-switched network, while data uses a packet-switched network. This timely book explores the promise of a converged network, which permits voice, video, and data to be carried in the same packet-switched network using the same packet format.
