Résumé

Three years-a database applications lifetime-have elapsed between the publication of this edition and the previous one. During I hose three years, much has changed in the applications development arena. The current version of Microsoft Access reflects many of those changes. For example, the development of data pages is easier and better than ever, thus making it possible to explore Web database applications development and management. (If you'll lake a peak at the screen pictures that accompany many of the problems in Chapter 9, you'll see why we are excited about the many learning and teaching opportunities that are to be found in the development of the Access data pages.)

This book, like its predecessor, includes a wide-ranging and in-depth coverage of Microsoft Access. Yet we do not consider this book to be just an Access book. Instead, we believe that this book's most important contribution lies in its role as a practical, hands-on database design, implementation, and applications development guide. Our argument is simple: No matter how well you learn Access, it you apply it to a poorly designed and badly implemented database, you will wind up with a poor end-user product. To use an analogy, hiring better bricklayers to lay the brick for a badly designed building is not going to improve the building much.
