Low-cost Smart Antennas

Qi / Gao Luo

288 pages, parution le 28/02/2019

Résumé

The authors present low-cost design solutions for smart antenna systems. This is very important as the realizations of 5G mobile communication, next-generation broadband satellite communications and Internet Of Things (IOT) have huge demands for smart antennas which have low cost, low power and compact size, which cannot be met by traditional smart antenna systems due to their high cost, high power consumption and bulky size. Up to date, there is no book addressing this topic, and case studies in each chapter will be helpful for people to understand the theory and technology better. Current literature focuses on signal processing algorithms - the software - of the antenna. This book is unique in focusing on the antenna hardware, and will cover fundamental theories and advanced topics, suitable for readers at varying levels of study and experience.

Qi Luo, PhD, is a research fellow at the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, University of Kent, UK. He received his PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2012. His areas of expertise include phased arrays, smart antennas, reflectarrays, circularly polarized antennas, MIMO and multiband antennas. He has authored and co-authored many papers in international journals and conferences. He is one of the authors of the book on Circularly Polarized Antennas (Wiley-IEEE, 2014).

Steven (Shichang) Gao, PhD, is a Professor and Chair of RF and Microwave Engineering, School of Engineering and Digital Arts, University of Kent, UK. His research focuses on smart antennas, wideband/multi-band antennas, MIMO antenna systems and phased arrays. He co-authored and co-edited 2 books including Space Antenna Handbook (Wiley, 2012) and Circularly Polarized Antennas (Wiley-IEEE, 2014), over 300 refereed papers and 4 patents. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation and Radio Science, and was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (2014-2016). He is the Director of Post-graduate Research at the University of Kent, UK.

Wei Liu, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield, UK. He received his PhD from University of Southampton, UK. His research is focused on signal processing and its various applications, and in particular array signal processing (beamforming and direction of arrival estimation). He has published more than 250 journal and conference papers and a research monograph titled Wideband Beamforming: Concepts and Techniques (Wiley, 2010). He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and IEEE Access and an editorial board member of Frontiers of Information Technology and Electronic Engineering.

Chao Gu, PhD, is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Kent, UK. His research focuses on smart antennas, reconfigurable antennas and THz antennas. He received his PhD from the University of Kent, UK. He has published several papers in IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation on smart antennas and reconfigurable antennas.
