P. A. Dargan

290 pages, parution le 17/06/2005

Résumé

This groundbreaking volume offers professionals new insights for building and evolving open systems using the best mix of standards for their software development projects. Numerous books have been published that describe individual computer standards, but only Open Systems and Standards for Software Product Development presents a framework for distinguishing between them.

Unlike any other book on the market today, this innovative resource presents:

  • Standards terminology, history, services, status, standards organizations, and URLs for products and technical support;
  • 12 categories of standards, including communications, data management, security, distributed computing, and the World Wide Web;
  • 5 major trends that guarantee the future of open systems and help readers keep pace with new developments;
  • The significant standards shaping today's open systems;
  • Guidance on choosing the best combination of standards for a particular system;
  • Emerging standards for such technologies as wireless networks, storage area networks (SANs), identity management, grid computing, and the Semantic Web;
  • An extensive list of links to Web sites with valuable information on related topics.
