Résumé
The OSI (Open System Interconnection) Reference Model is
the basis of modern data network design, but it underlies
the public switched telephone (PSTN) network as well. For
voice engineers learning how to send services over data
networks, and for Internet engineers learning how to tap
into the PSTN, the OSI model is an ideal point of
reference. Although nearly every book on IP networking
covers the model with respect to data com, until now no
author has attempted to do the same for telecom.
For each layer, author Wetteroth spells out roles, functions, definitions, and fundamentals that are required of, but not taught to, entry-level personnel in either field. The reader needs no special background to understand the book contents, and will build an understanding of telecom service architecture and equipment in terms that cut through the differences between data and voice.
