Résumé
The Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus is the dominant bus system used to connect the different elements making up today's high-performance computer systems. Different PCI implementations have also been developed for such applications as telecommunications and embedded computing. PCI is now found in airport information kiosks and medical devices. If an application calls for high speed, high reliability, and flexible configuration and bus mastering, then PCI is the only logical bus choice.
Doug Abbott knows the PCI bus inside and out. An experienced design engineer, he has taught hundreds of other engineers how to use the PCI bus through his seminars. How he has distilled his expertise into this book. Inside, you'll find up-to-the-minute information on:
- PCI electrical specifications, mechanical requirements, and signal types
- Multiple bus masters and arbitration methods
- Protocols for data transfer, transaction termination, and error handling
- Interrupt processing
- PCI extensions for 64-bit data and 512-megabyte-per-second transfers
- CompactPCI standard for telecommunications and embedded applications
- PCI BIOS, "plug and play" configuration, "Hot Plug" and "Hot Swap"
Bonus! eBook Version On CDROM!
The CDROM with this book includes a full electronic version of this title. It supports such handy features as full-text searches for desired words or phrases and bookmarking of sections.
