Plug-ins for J2EE Development

Christopher M. Judd, Hakeem Shittu - Collection The Expert's Voice in Java

334 pages, parution le 16/09/2005

Résumé

As Java/J2EE developers, we are always looking for development tools that make us and our clients more productive. As businessmen, we are also looking for affordable tools that provide a great return on our investment. So we were excited when the Eclipse Foundation announced it was going to release its open source Web Tools Platform (WTP) for developing web and J2EE applications.

This book provides an in-depth guide to using the J2EE Standard Tools (JST), an Eclipse WTP subproject for developing and debugging J2EE applications. We explain to you the best practices for using the JST wizards, editors, and tools to simplify developing sophisticated server-side applications. We show you how to develop Enterprise JavaBeans, JMS, JavaServer Pages, servlets, and Web Services. And because J2EE applications do not simply rely on the J2EE technologies, we also cover other open source tools such as the JBoss Application Server 4.x, Apache Derby, and XDoclet.

J2EE development can be difficult enough-so we wrote this book to make J2EE development using JST easier for all of us. JST is so new that there's little documentation available, so we decided to include the necessary documentation to help new J2EE developers learn the basics of J2EE and become familiar with the JST development tools. We also strived to give seasoned J2EE developers all the information they need to migrate from their existing J2EE tools to JST.

This book will teach you the best way to organize your projects to achieve easy development and deployment. You will gain an understanding of how to configure your specific application server and databases, and you will learn the best ways to develop J2EE components. Above all, this book will show you how to get the most out of JST and WTP.
