Wireless Internet Application and Architecture
Building Professional Wireless Applications Worlwide
Résumé
Part I tells the story of telecommunications and the Internet; the key issues in 3G and the emerging data capacities of wireless PAN/LAN/WAN networks. It seriously covers the lessons from the highly successful Japanese i-mode wireless Internet service, the steady growing North American wireless vertical market technology, and the European SMS messaging and WAP systems. It works through pagers, handhelds, web phones, voice portals, embedded devices, and even web PCs.
Part II intrigues developers to think small with skillful examples of the process and the source code of many systems. It reveals the widely successful practice of building mobile personas and explains the new wireless development methodology that is content-centric. Examples and source code are combined. Location-based algorithms, how to geocode your database, wireless Ethernet applications, voice portal source; source code in i-mode cHTML (including Japanese), WAP WML, Palm C, RIM Java, Java J2ME, and even BREW which does C and Java are all covered. A section on Symbol and industrial handhelds is well worth reading because it is the base of wireless applications to come.
Part III covers architecture. This is a radical model that explores the key components of spectrum, tower, server, device, content, and user frames of reference. It covers new base stations and wireless devices including key XML server techniques for IIS ASP, Java J2SE, and Linux Open Source. It explores the development of a wireless publishing operation and what to consider for the mobile end user now using data more often than voice services. The book explains and shows application examples of geolocation, Bluetooth, wireless Ethernet, Open Source, and next generation media applications and issues. It explains 1G, 2G, 2,5G, 3G and the new TDD (Time Division Duplex) 4G networks. The entire US Frequency Allocation spectrum has been reproduced and annotated along with other key resources for the wireless Internet professional.
