Annie Besant (Londres 1847 - Madras, Inde 1933) est une conférencière féministe, libre-penseuse, socialiste. En 1889, elle découvre la théosophie grâce à un compte-rendu qu'elle doit faire de "La Doctrine Secrète" d'Helena Blavatsky pour un journal. Elle s'y convertit et va diriger la Société Théosophique pendant 26 ans.
