L'auteur - Sherwood Anderson

Né en 1876 dans une famille rurale pauvre de l’Ohio, Sherwood Anderson abandonne ses études à 14 ans. Il participe à la guerre hispano-américaine de 1898 puis devient administrateur d’usine avant de quitter sa famille pour rejoindre à Chicago un groupe de journalistes et d’écrivains. Il collabore à diverses revues et connaît le succès en 1919 avec son recueil de nouvelles le plus célèbre, Winesburg, Ohio. Il fut l’un des plus grands nouvellistes américains de la première moitié du xx^e siècle et influença notamment Hemingway, Faulkner et Steinbeck. Il est décédé à Panama en 1941.
