Dieu et la cite - le statut contemporain du theologico-politique

La question théologico-politique est aujourd'hui doublement réactivée : par l'ampleur inédite de travaux sur le statut de la modernité occidentale et les théorisations qu'ils induisent du rapport entre le pouvoir et le sacré par l'effet de mondialisation qui retentit sur les identités politiques et religieuses. Deux points de vue distincts s'imposent à son traitement : le théologico-politique en tant que problème religieux et en tant que problème politique. Dans un contexte d'actualité qui fait résonner cette question sur un registre souvent passionnel, le présent ouvrage veut honorer quatre tâches : restituer les grands moments théoriques en vertu desquels le théologique et le politique sont entrés en compromis dans l'histoire occidentale (saint Augustin, islam médiéval, Spinoza, Hegel...) mettre en lumière et en débat plusieurs modèles contemporains d'interprétation de cette histoire (M. Weber, C. Schmitt, K. Löwith, H. Blumenberg, J. Rawls...) apprécier les thèmes et les concepts mis en jeu par le phénomène de la nouvelle pluralité religieuse au sein de l'espace politique français et européen (nation, État, communauté, laïcité, mémoire, religion, témoignage, textualités fondatrices) répondre enfin à la question de savoir si l'idée d'une disjonction entre le théologique et le politique est recevable, examiner alors les conditions théoriques permettant d'en assumer une saine articulation.

Today, the theologico-political issue has been doubly reactivated: firstly by the unprecedented extent of research done on the status of modernity in the West, secondly by the theorizations resulting from the relation between government and the sacred through the effects of globalization and its influence on political and religious identities. Two distinct viewpoints must be treated: the theologico-political firstly as a religious problem, then as a political problem. In today's context this question is often discussed in passionate tones, but this book seeks to accomplish four tasks: to restore the great theoretical summits whereby theology and politics entered into a compromise in Western history (Saint Augustine, medieval Islam, Spinoza, Hegel...) to highlight and debate several contemporary models of the interpretation of that history (M. Weber, C. Schmitt, K. Löwith, H. Blumenberg, J. Rawls...) to assess the themes and the concepts put into question by recent religious plurality within French and European politics (nation, State, community, secularity, memory, religion, testimony, founding texts). Lastly, to answer the following question: is the idea of a separation between the theological and the political acceptable, and if so, what are the theoretical conditions under which it could be articulated?
