Divine violence
Wenin Andre, Causse Jean-Daniel - Collection Lire la Bible
Résumé
--
When it comes to interpreting biblical texts, the exegete would be wise to consult the humanities, especially psychoanalysis, a discipline which thinks the human being as a creature of words fashioned by the precedence of language. In return, any reflection on what "human being" means would be enriched by a serious correspondence with the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. They have a particular way of recognizing the complexity of human reality and indicating new possibilities of self-construction and living in the world. Anthropologically, how can we relate human violence and the divine variety? The three authors of this book show how, in the Bible, references to God can produce violence, and how those same texts formulate a critique or operate a conversion of divine violence. Wars, murder, punishment, anger, sacrifice, the cross, but also love and jealousy, are so many motifs that this book elucidates in with great originality.
