Histoire de la philosophie islamique
Majid Fakhry - Collection Patrimoines - islam
Résumé
--
For a long time, Western culture only expressed an interest in Islamic thinking in so far as it exerted an influence on European philosophy or Christian theology. But Majid Fakhry's History', republished several times in English, approaches Islamic philosophy in its own right. The introduction of Greek ideas into Islamic thought provoked a fundamental and lasting division between the advocates of philosophical thinking and those who deemed it impious. To this division was later added the arrival of an 'illuminist' trend. Yet thinkers such as Ibn Rušd, Ibn Tufayl and Ibn Bagga clearly fall within the Greek ideal of faith in man's capacity to develop his intellectual capacities without recourse to supernatural enlightenment. The general history presented by Majid Fakhry, both explanatory and interpretive, helps the reader to grasp the dynamic movement of the spirit, thus providing a fresh understanding of Islamic philosophy.
