L'étranger dans la bible et ses lectures
Riaud Jean - Collection Lectio divina
Résumé
--
What does the Bible have to say about the other, one who is a stranger to us? The research team 'La Bible et ses lectures' (Université catholique de l'Ouest together with the Centre Lenain-de-Tillemont, Paris-Sorbonne) invited its researchers to study this subject. Their findings are assembled in this book. In the first part, exegetes reveal what the scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, have to say about the stranger. But throughout the ages, these texts have been read countless times and have inspired many interpretations, the first being that of the Septante when the Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek. The second part focuses on readings of texts that mention the stranger, whether biblical or extra-biblical or simply closely associated with the Bible (the tragic poet Ezechiel, Philon, Joseph Flavius...). The third part, 'A Cultural Posterity', focuses on the role of the stranger in art inspired by the Bible. The book closes with a reading of Simone Weil's 'Prologue', which evokes 'in its purity, the mystical love of humanity, [...] that love without limits that effaces the very notion of stranger'.
