La guérison concerne tout le monde mais n'appartient à personne. Elle est bienfaisante mais mystérieuse. Elle oblige les chrétiens à considérer le corps comme lieu de manifestation du salut. Alors que la société vénère le corps jeune, beau, performant et tente d'exclure les corps non conformes, la foi montre le corps comme un mode d'accueil de la vulnérabilité. L'Église se souvient qu'elle reçoit le salut d'un corps qui n'a pas guéri, le corps crucifié du Christ. À la lumière de la croix, l'eucharistie et l'onction des malades apparaissent comme les sacrements qui entourent le corps, voué à la mort et promis à la résurrection.
