Résumé
--
We are born into the state of dependence and helplessness of the human child. Our resulting desires and phantasms lead us to navigate between the illusion of all-powerfulness and the depression of weakness, between love and hate, between anger and the joy of living, between trust and wariness. All these feelings are related to the image of God, our experience of faith or its absence. We are always torn between our life and death drives, which create an authentic dialectic with acts of faith and religious belonging. Moreover, love, aggressiveness, and all feelings that ensue - although they enter into constantly changing social models - nevertheless remain present and active in our lives, questioning the words of the Gospel or being challenged by them. The sign of the whale is the sign of Jonas, buried in a hollow chamber of death awaiting new birth into to a renewed land: psychoanalysis is a similar pattern. To plunge into our dark areas, our pain, our incertitude to confront them and move forward to rebirth, cleansed, ready to accomplish more fully our lives as human beings.
