Lire les évangiles : les dimanches du temps ordinaire
Brown Raymond E. - Collection Lire la Bible
Résumé
--
What the title refers to as 'temps ordinaires' - 'ordinary times' - covers roughly half of the liturgical year. Following a three-yearly cycle, the lectionary takes the readings from year one in Matthew's Gospel year two in Mark and year three in Luke. One also reads passages of John's Gospel, every year, during the later part of Lent and after Easter till Pentecost. We can observe that each gospel is not read in its entirety or even in its Biblical order. Some passages are never read and the selection sometimes separates elements that are usually connected. The author reminds us of what a gospel is, then gives a specific and distinctive image of each of the four gospels. He says his aim is to provide a context that will be of assistance to the preacher or the simple worshipper, helping them to situate the passages they read. So avoiding misunderstandings, anachronisms or all-round moralizing, each reader can take advantage of what they have heard proclaimed during the dominical Eucharistic celebration. In a lengthy preface, two of the author's former friends and colleagues, a Sulpician and a Jesuit, speak of Raymond Brown and explain how he approached the interpretation of the Bible.
