Here the reader will find brought together an impressive series of more than 230 standard microstructures, most of them in colour, covering all the main grades of current industrial cast iron, whether standardised or not. Structural defect and inclusion aspects are also covered comprehensively.

Practical advice and indications relating to the preparation of samples and the most commonly used, but also more specific, etching methods round off this contribution. The effects of the main elements on the microstructure of cast irons are also recalled, together with the main definitions specific to the metallography of such alloys.

This all makes the work not just a source of reference but an unrivalled teaching and training tool for the metallographist. In addition to the French original, the work will be also available in English and German to respond to international demand.
