Résumé
--
For the Church, as John XXIII stated, Vatican II is a springtime come out of season whose long-maturing fruits - like those of every other council - will surpass the promise of its early blooms. It is a spirit, as people like to say, but a spirit that has taken body. As such, it has its own form, characteristics, style and countenance. In every way it calls out to serve mankind, striving to present the Church to men in such a way that they might discover the face of God. It seeks to awaken us to the best in ourselves, even more so in others, and to teach us twenty ways to deeply respect minds and cultures so that we may reveal to them the morning star which, from Galilee, can and wants to rise on every horizon. In this volume, Father Gustave Martelet, who participated in the Second Vatican Council, explains what the council was all about, particularly for the benefit of those generations who did not experience it. He makes the major texts of Vatican II accessible and demonstrates their decisive importance for the life of the Church.
