Résumé
--
The 'fragility' of happiness accounts in part for its price. Yet we must be careful lest the clumsiness of our desire place it out of reach. Man has always been careful to conserve his happiness. The things that can dupe us in our quest for happiness are : what psychology and sociology today refer to as 'immediatism' (everything, at once) or the illimitation of desire (it is forbidden to fobid) or the temptation of synthesis, where differences, needs and frustrations are held in contempt. All these reveal a difficulty to apply patience in time. But we must not forget that human beings also exist in time. That man cannot construct himself, and so protect his quest for happiness, unless he is capable of putting a gap - a distance - between himself and his urges, without denying the presen. So that his life urges do not become death urges. A. Gesché."
