He grew up in Liverpool, and observed how priests would come to his neighborhood to collect money for churches. He didn't like the hypocrisy.#2 George's blunt manner of speaking and behaving came from his family life. His mother, Louise, was warm and welcoming, but his father, Harold, was thin and thoughtful. They were tolerant, sensible, and loving people.#3 George's early musical interests were inspired by skiffle, a jazz-oriented musical style derived from the blues, ragtime, and folk music during the 1920s in the American South. He began taking weekly lessons from a local guitarist who worked out of a nearby pub.#4 George's friendship with Paul began when they were both students at the Liverpool Institute. In 1957, George joined the band the Quarry Men, which included Paul, and their sound improved immensely.
