It has stayed in the public consciousness as a pivotal event in the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement.#4 After Hurricane Katrina, the city of New Orleans was left in shambles. The flood destroyed most of the buildings in the city, and the oil spill that came with it heavily contaminated the soil.
