Toyo Ito : Works Projects Writings
Andrea Maffei - Collection Architecture
Résumé
"In the Architectural Documents series, Electa presents the first complete monograph on one of the most unique figures on the contemporary architecture scene, the Japanese architect Toyo Ito (born in 1941).
Since the 1970s he has conducted research on construction materials, light and space, leading to the design of architecture he defines as "non-material": airy structures, fluid, permeable spaces that reject rigid compositional geometries. Over the years Toyo Ito has progressively refined his language, and his works, whose structure has become less and less important, can be seen as a sequence of variations on the theme of the facing. The obsession with lightness and transparency finds its maximum expression in the most important work of his creative path, the Media Library of Sendai (1995-2001).
This book, with its exceptional selection of illustrations, presents the most significant works of the Japanese architect, starting with the Aluminium House in 1970-71, all the way to the very recent Mahler 4 office tower in Amsterdam (2000-01). Also with complete listing of works, updated bibliography and a selection of writings by Toyo Ito"
