Areas such as analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and organic chemistry have been expanded to reflect recent developments in the field. The dictionary's supplementary material has also been enhanced as new diagrams provide readers with useful visual aids, and the appendices have been substantially updated. His main interest is in the theory of the structure of matter. He has written a number of articles and reviews. He has contributed to several other reference books, including the Oxford Dictionary of Physics. He wrote the Facts on File Dictionary of Atomic and Nuclear Physics which was published in 2003. He has taught mathematics, physics, and chemistry at various Sixth Form Colleges and is a Senior Invigilator for the University of Cambridge. Jonathan Law has worked in reference publishing for nearly 30 years and is a director of Market House Books Ltd. He is the editor or co-editor of several other books in the Oxford Quick Reference series, including A Dictionary of Finance and Banking and A Dictionary of Business and Management.
