Automotive Lubricants Reference Book
Résumé
The first edition was produced in 1996 by Caines and Haycock. Much of the book focuses on engine oils, but other automotive lubricants such as transmission oils and greases are considered. Considerable attention is given to specification and oil approval systems, while the relationship between test methods and formulation technology is covered adequately.
After reviewing the first edition the authors objective for this new edition was to make changes only where necessary because technology or markets have changed. The book focuses on two main areas which have changed since 1996. Firstly the continuing drive for improvements in the environment, particularly air quality and secondly the consolidation within the oil and petroleum additive industries with fewer people being in these industries.
All of these influences have seen changes throughout the second edition of the book particularly in chapters 4,6,7,8 and 11. There are also significant changes to the sections on greases, industrial lubricants and rail road oils.
