Practical Optics
Naftaly Menn - Collection Engineering/Electro-Optics
Résumé
This book attempts to bridge the gap existing between what students learn in optical engineering curricula and the problems they realistically will face as optical engineering practitioners, in a variety of high-tech industries. Abroad range of topics from modern electro-optics are addressed in this book, including geometrical optics, aberration theory and aspects of physical optics, a description of radiation sources and radiation detectors, spectroscopy systems, color measurements, and optical systems from different application areas.
Coverage of each topic includes examples and problems, all of which are original and derived from realistic applications, such as optical configuration for automatic inspection in industry, surveying systems, robot navigation, X-ray imaging, computerized radiography, microscopy vision and measurements, laser Doppler technique and flow study, non-contact measurement of temperature, acousto-optical scanners, spectral analysis, and more.
- Condensed background information related to most topics of modern Electro-Optics and Optical Engineering.
- Detailed solutions are provided for every problem, both theoretical and numerical.
- Coverage includes some topics rarely included in optics textbooks, such as non-contact measurements of temperature, velocity, or color.
L'auteur - Naftaly Menn
Naftaly Menn received his M.Sc. in Physical Optics and Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics from the Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics in 1964 and 1970 respectively. In 1979, he joined the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and since then has held the position of Professor for Electro-Optics on the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering. During his years at Technion, he has taught numerous courses in Optical Engineering, Radiative Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics. In 1983, Dr. Menn also joined El-OP, the largest electro-optics company in Israel, and served for twelve years as a Manager of the R&D Branch of EL-OP in Haifa. In 1996, Dr. Menn established a new company, LUMINOS Computerized Systems ltd, which is engaged in the development and manufacturing of advanced electro-optical systems. He currently serves as CEO. Dr. Menn was personally involved as a scientist, designer, and manager of about 30 different projects in electro-optics for industrial, military and medical applications. He has published 48 scientific papers, two books, and has hundreds of former students working in the field of electro-optics globally.
