On occasions, restoring a building is more complicated than constructing a new one, not only because of the historical value of the part which is to be preserved, but also the state of its structure, bearing in mind the building's condition is not usually known before the project gets underway. This makes these types of commissions a real challenge, as the architect must put into practice very different adaptation strategies to those used on a bare site. The sensitivity of the professional who carries out a restoration is crucial, since the way the owners' desires combine with the reality of the property depends on him; after all, the strategies the architect can develop within his budget will determine the final result.
