Personal computers based on the Pentium or Power PC
processor are now capable of creating many of the same
computer graphics effects found in television and movies.
And there are many 3D software packages available, each
with its own proprietary format -- resulting in dozens of
potential file formats. But 3D is not an option if you
can't sort through this format labyrinth and convert your
3D files successfully.
To the rescue comes 3D Graphics File Formats: A
Programmer's Reference, describing seven of the most
commonly used 3D formats and accompanied by a CD-ROM
containing 3D objects and all the source code from the
book, a 3D file format converter, and several commercial
demonstration packages.
Keith Rule shows you how to write a reader/writer for:
- VRML
- 3D Studio
- TrueSpace
- AutoCAD DXF
- POVRay
- World Toolkit
- RAW
and defines a useful subset of each format that is interchangeable with other formats. He also presents the formats in an immediately useful manner. The bundled software can be added to existing IBM-PC programs either by linking in the precompiled libraries or by using the OCX control on the CD-ROM.
