Résumé

With C++ gaining a stronghold in the engineering and scientific communities, Bronson's timely new book makes C++ accessible to first level engineering students. Featuring a wealth of practical, engineering-oriented examples and applications, the book teaches the fundamentals of the C++ language with a gradual refinement of programming skills from a procedural to an object orientation. Part One presents procedural programming with an emphasis on modular program design and helps readers understand the importance of writing programs that can be easily modified and maintained. Part Two on object-oriented programming and Part Three on data structures are interchangeable for teaching flexibility. Problem solving techniques, software engineering, and completed applications are emphasized throughout.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Applications Sections An average of two completed applications is provided per chapter. Applications include acid rain, speed radar detection, telephone switching networks, object-oriented simulation, and numerical techniques
  • Program Testing Every single C++ program has been successfully compiled and run under Version 6.0 of Microsoft's Visual C++ Development System. A source diskette of all programs is bound into the book, so that users can experiment with, extend, and more easily modify them as required by several end-of-section exercises.
  • Common Programming Error Sections are provided to anticipate problems encountered by novice C++ programmers. Program examples feature short programs illustrating a particular syntax or language feature and longer programs illustrating multi-function code.
  • Point of Information Boxes A set of shaded boxes highlights alternative and advanced programming techniques.
  • Engineering Career Choices A set of special end-of-chapter topics describes and highlights different engineering branches of study.
