Part I - Welcome to the World of Digital Photography
Here you get an introduction to the potentials and realities of digital photography and what you can expect to get out of it now and in the near future. Next, you are taught the basics of digitizing conventional photographs so you can manipulate them on the computer. I then show you the basics of making a photo using a digital camera. Then you learn the essentials of setting up an indoor studio for shooting with digital equipment. The next chapter discusses the equipment and software you're most likely to want to add to your computer system. Of course, it also discusses what to look for in the computer system itself. Finally, there's a discussion of the technology that makes digital images work so you have a better understanding of what you're paying for and what the future holds.
Part II - Tips and Tricks for Making Digital Images
This part of the book gets into more detail on converting images from conventional to digital format. There's a chapter on accessories for digital cameras and another on scanners.
Part III - Shooting Digital images

This part's two chapters take you through more advanced techniques for creating digital images from scratch. The second chapter in this part contains tips and tricks involving accessories that were just becoming available at press time.
Part IV - Choosing the Right Processing Software

This part consists of four chapters, each discussing how to choose a different category of software for processing digital images. Each chapter specializes in a different application: Professional-level image processing, image-processing software for the rest of us, Web processing software, and special-purpose image-processing software.
Part V - Processing Images Digitally
This part of the book consists mostly of a series of hands-on lessons that show you how to set up your computer for digital imaging and then efficiently transfer your images from camera to computer. Next, you learn the basics of Photoshop, the program most widely used for professional-level digital image processing. The next two chapters cover publishing: The first deals with publishing to the Web and the second covers publishing to paper. This part closes with a chapter that introduces the use of specialty processing software that was just coming onto the scene as this book went to press.
