Résumé

Key Features :
  • Written by an internationally known software developer, who has been a
featured expert on NBC's Today Show and CNN.
  • Provides an in-depth, objective, and independent perspective of leading
industry operating systems issues--not the Microsoft view!
  • Compares NT 5 to NT 4, Windows 95, and Unix to help professionals decide
whether to upgrade or switch operating systems.
  • Organized and written to appeal to both technical and nontechnical
professionals who must make educated and informed decisions about
    upgrading their computer systems.
  • Goes above and beyond the competition by offering a history of Microsoft's development process for the NT operating system and by appealing to both nontechnical managers and advanced information system professionals.
  • Delivers the only nonbiased look to date at the operating system that will carry the corporate desktop into the 21st century!

About The Book:

  • Provides information systems managers and administrators the premiere look
into the planning and deployment of Microsoft's NT 5 operating system.
  • Details the ideas and architecture represented by NT 5, including a survey of NT 5's new features and capabilities, analysis and expert advice for deploying the operating system in a corporate atmosphere.
  • Highlights critical new abilities provided by the powerful NT 5 operating
system in directory services, distributed application deployment, NTFS,
messaging (including the new Message Queue Server), and more!
  • Presents a comprehensive comparison between NT 5, NT 4, Windows 95, and
    Unix.
  • Details critical NT 5 upgrade, deployment, and planning issues for the
    corporate enterprise.

Market Profile:

  • NT 5 is slated to be Microsoft's flagship business operating system (OS). This year alone, Microsoft is investing more than $1 billion in research and development of this new OS.
  • Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has said that he is "betting the company on NT 5.0."
  • Many companies are likely to forego the installation of Windows 98 in
anticipation of the release of NT 5, and it is estimated that over 1 million of them will install this new OS.
  • Unix and other operating systems will expand in the next few years, but
Windows NT 5 is expected to radically outspace all of them due to the
widespread appeal of its numerous enhancements.
