About The Book:

Thousands of Oracle databases support mission-critical applications worldwide. Most run under Unix. With the
widespread acceptance of Windows NT, there is a need for database administrators to support and often migrate to
Oracle on Windows NT. Database administrators often face a stiff Windows NT learning curve.

Oracle8 & Windows NT Black Book makes that learning curve possible. The book introduces the basic Oracle8
architecture, describes the changes necessary in the Windows NT environment to support an Oracle database, and
details Oracle installation and configuration. It also addresses the similarities and differences between Unix and
Windows NT, with special emphasis on operating system features, performance tuning, and functionality that will
impact an Oracle database running on Windows NT.

Audience:

As the number of Windows NT databases outnumber Unix, the demand for qualified DBAs will increase. Many of
these DBAs will be implementing Oracle for the first time on NT and need to know how to tune Oracle on NT for
optimal performance. It can be safely said that the bulk of existing Unix DBAs will also be supporting NT within the
next two years. In addition, Oracle Corporation has targeted the NT platform as a key technology, and is
aggressively pursuing this market.
