Résumé

Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 represents a significant advance on the 6.5 version, and can now also be installed on Windows 95/98 as well as NT. Distributed Management Objects (DMO) are a key feature for database programmers. Distributed Management Objects are COM objects internal to SQL Server, allowing control over the structure of a SQL Server database, and the creation of powerful applications and administrative tools. This book also includes coverage on SQL Namespaces (SQL-NS) and transforming and manipulating data through Data Transformation Services (DTS).

For developers building custom administration tools and applications, this book will introduce and explain DMO, DTS and NS. Throughout the book, a sample application will be developed showing how to use these technologies in an n-tier solution. This application will provide all the core functionality needed to manage a SQL Server including running and scheduling backups and security. From information on programmatically calling DTS, replication and the MSDE engine, to DNA applications and COM +, this book will enable you to fully exploit these object models in your applications. While most of the examples are in VB, using DMO with C++ is also covered.

Who is this Book for?

  • Developers who want to leverage their programming skills to develop custom SQL Server administration tools for the distributed environment.
  • This book assumes basic knowledge of SQL Server.
