Résumé
This book is best read sitting in front of your computer and going through all of the techniques described step by step in the book. After a few times through, you may only need the book as a quick reference, proof that you are on your way to expanding your abilities as an F/X animator. Feel free to improvise along the way, such as changing the setting in the plugins and shaders to create your own explosive F/X. This book tells you all you need to know to get going on the F/X you want to create. Don't depend on the presets shown throughout the book and on the CD, or you won't really be learning anything.
This book is not for the absolute beginner; it's assumed you have at least a basic understanding of 3D modeling and animation. Also assumed is that you are familiar with the general trueSpace interface and the operation of the program. This is NOT a book on trueSpace; if you're just starting out, it may be a better idea to pick up The trueSpace2 Bible or trueSpace3for Dummies, both available at your local bookstore.
In the initial chapters, we will cover some functions of trueSpace4 that you may or may not be aware of If you already understand these features, feel free to skip to the next section; odds are you'll find something in there that you haven't discovered. In later chapters, we will discuss the creation of advanced F/X using trueSpace4 in conjunction with some of the amazing plugins and shaders available to the trueSpace4 community.
What this Book Is About ?
When doing research on the topic of F/X, I went looking for
other books that covered the same topic, and they were very
hard to find. Many of them were written years ago, and
that's a lifetime in computer graphics. Those written
fairly recently didn't go into much depth on the topics and
tended only to cover the very basics of F/X creation in a
particular program. I was quite surprised by this due to
the number of productions around today that require some
kind of CG F/X work. This strengthened my resolve to make
this book as informative and detailed as possible.
The techniques in this book apply to almost every 3D
program in existence-whether you are using trueSpace4,
Lightwave, 3DSMAX, or others, you should be able to walk
away from this book and apply what you have learned to
create your own amazing, explosive F/X.
L'auteur - Nick Robalik
is a freelance 3D modeler/animator and F/X animator. He is the owner of Digital.Soapbox, a virtual Internet-based design and animation house specializing in detailed modeling, animation, and, of course, F/X animation. Nick blames his interest in computer graphics on the movies Tron and The Last Starfighter, both of which he stills owns and watches at least once a week. And, of course, comic books, which warped his fragile little mind so that he may concoct strange plugin and shader recipes to achieve his F/X.
