This non-mathematical, non-theoretical exposition explores fiber optics and related technologies. The importance of fiber optics can not be overstated. It is the backbone of the Internet and global voice/data communication. Its importance is also related to the emergence of photonic switches, wave division multiplexing technologies and optical logic circuits from academic and corporate research institutions. These are the precursors of optical computers and completely fiber-optic data transmission services.
