Résumé
Not anymore! Microsoft has released Windows Scripting Host,
and although its name doesn't sound heroic, it may well be
one of the most important innovations Microsoft has
released in the past years. And it's one of the most
unknown and undocumented techniques, too. This is why you
are reading Windows Scripting Secrets.
The Windows Scripting Host gives you the ability, for the
first time, to talk directly to Windows - without having to
resort to sophisticated programming environments. You don't
need to knock yourself out just to get a list of broken
links or find ail files that you didn't use within the last
two months. In fact, you don't even need to know much about
programming at all. Script languages are easy,
fault-tolerant, and fun to use.
Windows Scripting Secrets is loaded with powerful and
undocumented information, divided into five parts:
- Part I: Scripting Kickstart
Start your journey with a VBScript "guerilla session" that shows you all the highlights and professional tweaks you need to know to write great scripts. You will learn how to use the undocumented Script Debugger to find errors quickly and step through your code. Learn how to use Visual Basic or the free Visual Basic Control Creation Edition to write your own script extensions. Discover how to use undocumented Windows API functions to display any of the standard dialog windows, and find out how DLL files are internally organized. As a special highlight, you will learn how to use scripts to untap the secret TypeLibraries and list all the methods and properties undocumented components provide.
- Part II: Conquering the File System
Employ numerous sample scripts to control files and folders, create your own incremental backup utility, find broken links, and create new text files from scratch. Discover how to use the Windows API to get access to completely undocumented copy functions.
- Part III: Starting and Controlling Other Software
Learn how to launch any software, enumerate all the running programs, and send key strokes to specific windows to remote-control dialog boxes and entire programs. Find out how to switch between program windows and close programs at will.
- Part IV: Accessing the Operating System
Discover how to read and write to the Windows Registry, control numerous undocumented Windows settings, and change screen resolution or refresh rate. Learn ail about events and how to use them to communicate between programs and scripts.
- Part V: Accessing Hidden Components
Take advantage of the many COM objects already installed on your system. Access TWAIN scanners, synchronize your local hard drive with Web servers using FTP, access databases and design your own HTML-based custom dialog windows. As a special highlight, use ADSI and the windows API to completely administer Windows NT and 2000 by script.
