Jean paul ii et la culture contemporaine
Collectif - Collection Documents des églises
Résumé
--
Acts of the colloquium which took place at the Maison de l'Unesco on Thursday June 2, 2005, entitled "Culture, raison, liberté". Organised in collaboration with the Institut catholique de Paris to mark the 25th anniversary of His Holiness Pope John-Paul II's visit to Unesco. Prefaced by Mgr Francesco Follo, the Holy See's permanent observer at Unesco. In June 1980, Pope John-Paul II came to Paris and made two major speeches on culture, one at the Institut catholique de Paris and the other at Unesco, where he stated: "With all cultures in mind, I want to say, here in Paris, at the Unesco headquarters, with respect and admiration: Behold the man!" Received like a thunderbolt, the papal speech overturned as many certitudes of Marxism and economic liberalism alike, by placing man at the centre and the basis of culture and civilisation. All those listening to him discovered the thinking, rich in personalist and phenomenological presuppositions, of a true philosopher, connoisseur of ideological systems, capable of enlightening the political destiny of our world. This book contains a series of analyses of those two speeches made by John-Paul II.
