L'or, l'encens et la myrrhe

Voici des poèmes libres jaillis au gré des situations de la vie, de la méditation des Écritures ou de la liturgie. Ce sont des épisodes de l'Évangile, de la Bible qui, au cours de la prière, ont surgi à leur fantaisie, se reliant à la vie ou c'est la vie, un événement, un arbre, une plante qui, s'accrochant à l'Évangile, a donné naissance à un texte. Ce sont des psaumes qui se transforment dans la prière, des litanies ou encore de simples cris vers Dieu - parfois des reproches, souvent des plaintes. La parole peut aussi être donnée au Très-Haut qui sermonne, s'étonne, gémit, admire ou exhorte. Ce sont des textes - courts, ou bien s'élargissant comme une méditation - qui n'ont pas été écrits dans l'intention d'être édités. Mais bientôt, ils furent mis en ordre et des titres s'imposèrent : « Moi » et « Toi » (le Seigneur), « Vous » (ceux de l'Ancien Testament), « Elle » (Marie) et « Lui » (l'Esprit), « Soi » (l'Église, puisqu'elle est chacun de nous), « Et puis » (l'au-delà plein de joie et d'espérance). Des groupes de réflexion ont aimé ces textes, faciles à comprendre et proches de leur vie, qui les aidaient à prier et réfléchir. Alors un jour est venue la pensée que peut-être ils pourraient servir et devraient être publiés. « Seigneur, me voici devant toi après une longue marche dans la nuit... Et je tombe à tes pieds, Mains vides aux poussières d'or, Baignée d'encens et parfumée de myrrhe. »

These freely-written poems flowed from the pen in response to situations of everyday life, meditations of the Scriptures or liturgy. They are episodes of the Gospel or the Bible which, during prayer, came to mind unbidden, linking themselves to life. Or, on the contrary it was life, an event, a tree or a plant that recalled the Gospels and inspired a text. They are psalms that transform into prayer, litanies or simply calls to God - sometimes reproaching, often complaining. Sometimes the pen is placed in the hand of the Almighty, who sermons, expresses astonishment, laments, admires or exhorts. These texts - some of them short, others expanding into meditation - were not written for publication. But they were soon arranged in order and titles came naturally to mind: 'Me' and 'You' (the Lord), 'Thou' (those of the Old Testament), 'She' (Mary) and 'It' (the Spirit), 'Self' (the Church, since it is all of us), 'And Then' (the beyond, full of life and hope). Easy to understand, and close to everyday life, these poems were appreciated by groups of reflection who found they helped them to pray and to think deeply. So, one day, someone realised they might also be useful to a wider public. "Lord, I am here in front of you after a long trek through the night... And I fall at your feet, My empty hands powdered with gold, Bathed in incense and Perfumed with myrrh.
