Résumé

The Guide to Franchising, first published in 1970, is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of franchising. It is a valuable introduction to this growing area of business for those who are unfamiliar with franchising, and answers the fundamental questions: why franchise your business? Why take up a franchise? What can be franchised? The book also functions as a practical guide for those already involved in franchising. It examines how to become a franchisor or franchisee and the relationship between the two parties.

The seventh edition has been substantially revised and updated to reflect recent experience and developments in the field. The book is very comprehensive and includes international development and examples of franchise specific regulation from around the world.

Key features:

  • There are three new chapters; one which concentrates on issues which arise from information technology and its effect on franchising, and another which recognises the increasing number of franchise systems which charities and 'not for profit' organisations are developing. It also features a chapter explaining the US regulatory system with annotations throughout the book indicating where US experience practice or laws may differ from other jurisdictions.
  • The book reflects updates to the British Franchise Association's practice guide The Ethics of Franchising and its Arbitration and Mediation Schemes.
  • The text has been substantially revised to reflect developments both in business practice and legal changes.
  • New UK and International case studies have been added.

The Guide to Franchising benefits from the author's vast experience in this field gathered over 40 years and is the most comprehensive and authoritative book available on the subject. Martin Mendelsohn is widely known as one of the leading international authorities on Franchising. He is Visiting Professor of Franchise Management at Middlesex University Business School and is the Chairman of Eversheds European Franchise Group.
